2023 Memorial Day Ceremony in Black Mountain, NC
Celebrating Memorial Day has been a long time tradition for many of us. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to the brave individuals who have given their lives serving our nation. The annual ceremony will be held Monday, May 29th at 10 am, at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery promises to be a moving and memorable experience.
Retired Marine Lt. Gen. Walter E. Gaskin, who currently serves as the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Ms. Stephanie Young, Executive Director of the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System, will also deliver remarks.
Flags are placed on each of the graves and there will be a reading from the Brothers and Sisters Like These Veteran Writing Group. Their powerful and inspiring words will undoubtedly resonate with everyone in attendance as we reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave service members.
The Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery is remarkable and solemn. Situated amount the beautiful countryside and mountain landscape, the cemetery is a place of reflection and honor for those who have served our country. It serves as a tangible reminder of the price of freedom and the sacrifices made by those who give their lives in its defense.
As we come together to celebrate Memorial Day in Black Mountain, let us honor and remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Let us never forget their service or the legacy they have left behind.
