A Walk-Through History
Step back in time with a romantic stroll down Main Street where you can admire the historic buildings and architecture dating back to circa 1895. Grab a cup of coffee before you start at one of the local coffee shops, stop by Hops for an old-fashioned ice cream cone or treat yourselves to lunch at a local eatery, there are so many great places to choose from. Check out our dining page and sweets page. Black Mountain, NC was named America’s Prettiest Small Town in 2017 by voters on TripAdvisor. That’s a huge feat given some of the stiff competition it faced across the country.
Unite with Nature
Get outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer! There are plenty of scenic hikes in the area ranging from easy to difficult. For those who want a more leisurely pace, take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway for stunning views of the mountainside. And don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the many overlooks. The Grocery and Herschel’s has plenty of supplies for your picnic basket and the Merry Wine Market has a great wine selection also.
Visit a Brewery or Distillery
Black Mountain is home to several breweries and distilleries that offer tastings and tours. This is a great option for couples who want to learn something new together while enjoying some of Black Mountain’s finest products. Take a Lakeside Stroll
Soak in the beautiful mountain views as you walk around Lake Tomahawk and enjoy watching the ducks, have a picnic or bring your canoe and take a paddle around. It is hard to find a more beautiful place to take in the sunset in Black Mountain.
Meander on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Take a ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway and stop at one of the amazing overlooks. The views create one-of-a-kind memories perfect for a selfie with your special person. Our favorites include; Craggy Gardens MP 364.4-367, Glassmine Falls MP 361.2, Sleepy Gap MP 397.3, Walnut Cove MP 396.4, Tanbark Ridge MP 376.7, and of course Mt. Mitchell MP 355. In Summer catch the amazing rhododendron and wild azaleas in bloom during summer or view the changing of the seasons in the fall with a leaf season you surely won’t forget.
Take in Some Live Music
There are many local places to go for music in this area. Step out to any one of our local beer gardens, breweries, restaurants, or The White Horse Black Mountain, you are sure to find something perfect to suit the mood. There is something happening almost every day.

Immerse yourself in an adventure and see if you can solve the puzzles, riddles, and clues in time to escape!
Relax Under the Stars
There’s something about staring up at the stars that is both humbling and exhilarating. It’s a reminder of just how small we are in the grand scheme of things, and yet also of the endless possibilities that life holds. The stars seem brighter and closer when you’re surrounded by nothing but darkness, and the experience is truly unforgettable. If you haven’t had a chance to stargaze in the mountains, I highly recommend it. It’s an experience you’ll never forget, so grab a few blankets, and a thermos and then find a romantic spot. Lake Tomahawk is one of our favorite spots and seeing the moon reflect on the water just makes it sparkle.
