Day Tripping to Hendersonville, NC
Less than an hour’s drive is one of our favorite day trips from Black Mountain, NC. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hendersonville, NC is a charming town with a lot to offer. This quaint little town is known for its apple orchards and locally-sourced produce. It’s also home to a thriving music scene, with local musicians performing on the streets and in the cafes. And of course, no trip to Hendersonville would be complete without sampling some of the delicious southern food! Here are a few of our favorite places to visit when we’re in town!
Food
Pops Diner: Located on Main Street in downtown Hendersonville, Pops Diner is a must-visit for anyone who loves classic American comfort food. The diner has been serving up hearty Breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and more since it opened its doors in 2001. Thanks to its delicious food and welcoming atmosphere, Pops Diner has become a local favorite among residents and visitors alike.
McFarlan’s Bakery: Last but not least is McFarlan’s Bakery. This family-owned bakery has been serving up mouthwatering sweets since 1922. Whether you’re looking for a tasty breakfast pastry or an afternoon pick-me-up, McFarlan’s has got you covered, but be prepared it will be hard to choose the selection is as big as our sweet -tooth.
Mikes on Main Street: This 1950s-style restaurant with a historic old-fashioned soda fountain, offers breakfast, sandwiches, salads, burgers, hot dogs, and more. You have to see the Coca-Cola mural just repainted and the carousel horse out front. So nostalgic, a must-see.
Drinks
Wine Sage and Gourmet: Features a 500+ bottle wine cellar, expert wine assistance, and a small wine bar. They also carry local foods and gifts, and wine accessories too.
The Hendersonville area is home to several great breweries; D9 Brewing Company, Oklawaha Brewing Company, Southern Appalachian Brewery, Dry Falls Brewing Co., and more. Check out the Asheville Ale Trail for more great places to try.

Marketplace on Locust: For those who enjoy browsing unique shops while on vacation, Marketplace on Locust is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Mast General Store: No trip to Hendersonville would be complete without a visit to Mast General Store. This historic store has been a staple of downtown Hendersonville since 1883. Today, it continues to sell a variety of items including clothing, footwear, books, candy, and much more.
Southern Chicks Market: One of our favorite stops, they have the perfect accents for decorating your home for any season. It’s hard to leave without buying something adorable!
Wag: Don’t forget to pick up a treat for your furry friends. They have an extensive pet boutique filled with specialty items and pet outdoor gear.
