Local Parks In and Around Black Mountain
While Black Mountain is perfect for avid outdoor enthusiasts and beginner adventurers alike, is also full of parks where anyone can relax and have a picnic, or enjoy the beauty of nature.
Lake Tomahawk

Lake Tomahawk Park is just a few blocks from downtown and provides the community and visitors alike a place to play, walk, swim, gather, commune with nature and relax.
The park is 16.3-acres and has an 8.9-acre lake. Amenities include a covered pavilion, picnic tables, children’s playground, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, public restrooms, and a walking trail. There is also a fishing pier, note in order to fish at Lake Tomahawk, adults need to have a valid North Carolina fishing license. Kids under the age of 14 do not need a license, but must be accompanied by a licensed adult. Fishing licenses can be obtained online through NC Wildlife. There is also a public swimming pool that is open from Memorial Day – Labor Day. Non-motorized boats are allowed on the water so bring your canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards with you for some added fun.
Cragmont Park

Located directly across from Lake Tomahawk, amenities include: ¼ mile walking path, outdoor tennis courts (also used for pickleball) & outdoor basketball courts
River Walk Park
209 NC 9 Black Mountain, NC 28711
River Walk Park encompasses 2 acres and features picnic tables, a small fenced-in dog park, and a ½ mile-walking trail along the beautiful Swannanoa River.
Veterans Park
10 Veterans Park Drive Black Mountain, NC 28711
Black Mountain Veterans Park encompasses 27.2 acres for users to play, walk, fish, gather, exercise, and play a little ball. The park features walking trails, picnic tables, multiple ball fields, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Thursday evenings between June through August there are music concerts starting at 7 pm. In addition, to live music there will be a food truck on site. Check the Park Rhythms site for details.
Grovemont Park
251 Stonewall Ave, Swannanoa, NC 28778
Grovemont park located just a few minutes west of Black Mountain. Here you will find a nice playground and a small pavilion with picnic tables. The park also features a small walking path and a basketball court. In the summer you can catch music at the Groovin’ on Grovemont series from July to August. Groovin’ is a great mixture of musical styles like Latin, pop, rock, and country. While you’re there enjoy hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, and more from local vendors.
