White Horse Black Mountain announced that it will launch a new membership program with an all-star benefit concert on Friday, April 21, 2023

After a fourteen-year run presenting music and arts in Black Mountain, the White Horse is becoming a non-profit in order to ensure its sustainability for years to come. As a part of this shift, the beloved music venue is launching a new membership program in order to invite community members onto the team that keeps the Horse running.

Concerts will be open to anyone who wants to attend, as always, but members will have extra perks, including (at various levels) free tickets to concerts and other happenings, t-shirts, members-only events, etc. The move to non-profit status is partly to enable the White Horse to continue to serve the community via its frequent benefit concerts for worthy causes.

The White Horse board is celebrating these new developments with a launch concert on Friday, April 21, featuring Tony Cedras, who has performed with Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, and Hugh Masekala; Anne Coombs, founder of Asheville’s ‘Rock Academy’ and legendary Asheville-based performer; BJ Leiderman, pianist/vocalist of NPR fame; Connell Sanderson, Celtic multi-instrumentalist; Palmardelu, World Music Fusion featuring Ecuadorian musician Patricia Kayser, founder of Autism and Music; Black Mountain’s own David LaMotte, singer, songwriter, author, founder of P.E.G. Partners; and Bob Hinkle, founder and owner of the White Horse.

A flourishing community music and arts presence these days is not something to be taken for granted,” said White Horse Board president Doug Orr. “This is an exciting new chapter for us,” owner Bob Hinkle added, “It has always been a community effort, but now community members have a chance to be more involved than ever before.”
