New Poetry & Tea Social Coming to Black Mountain This July

If you’ve been looking for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon in Black Mountain, you want to check this out.

The White Horse Community Hub is launching a new quarterly Poetry & Tea Social series, and the first gathering will take place on Tuesday, July 15, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Quietude in Black Mountain.

This isn’t a formal poetry event where everyone sits quietly and takes notes. It’s designed to be a welcoming community gathering where people can enjoy a cup of tea, meet new friends, listen to great poetry, and spend time connecting with others who appreciate creativity and conversation. Whether you’re an avid reader, an aspiring writer, a longtime poetry lover, or simply someone looking for things to do in Black Mountain, this event is open to everyone.

Meet the Poets

The afternoon will be hosted by Tracey Schmidt, a well-known poet, educator, photographer, and creativity coach who has helped people throughout Western North Carolina discover new ways to express themselves through writing and storytelling. Her workshops are known for being engaging, encouraging, and accessible to people of all experience levels.

Joining Tracey for the inaugural event is featured poet Lee Stockdale. Lee will share selections from his newest chapbook, Bronxville, along with stories and insights behind his work. His poetry has received recognition from literary organizations in both the United States and the United Kingdom and is known for its humor, honesty, and thoughtful perspective.

More Than a Poetry Reading

One of the things we love most about this event is that it isn’t just about poetry. The afternoon begins with a tea social where guests can relax, chat, and get to know one another before the readings begin. In a world where most of us are rushing from one thing to the next, this event offers a chance to slow down, unplug, and enjoy meaningful conversation. The goal is simple: create a space where people can gather, share ideas, and experience the power of words and community.

A New Quarterly Tradition in Black Mountain

This July event marks the beginning of what we hope becomes a favorite community tradition. The Poetry & Tea Social will be held once each season as part of the White Horse Community Hub’s ongoing mission to bring people together through arts, education, wellness, and community engagement. Programs like this help strengthen the connections that make Black Mountain and the Swannanoa Valley such special places to live, work, and visit.
