Visit Beautiful Chimney Rock, NC
Looking to take a day trip while you’re visiting beautiful Black Mountain? Tucked away about 40 minutes away is the scenic town of Chimney Rock, a small village located within Chimney Rock State Park. There’s so much to do, you may need to plan a second trip. Here are a few of my favorite things to do when I visit.
Visit Chimney Rock State Park
The park is home to the iconic Chimney Rock, a 315-foot monolith that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Visitors can hike to the top of the rock or take an elevator to the summit. The park also offers hiking trails, scenic overlooks picnic areas, and a variety of outdoor activities.
Explore Hickory Nut Gorge
Hickory Nut Gorge is a scenic area located near Chimney Rock. It is home to the Hickory Nut Falls, a 404-foot waterfall that is one of the highest in the eastern United States. Visitors can hike to the falls or take a guided tour. The gorge is also home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, bobcats, and deer.
Visit Lake Lure
Lake Lure is a beautiful lake located just ten minutes up the road from Chimney Rock. Sit by the lake and have a picnic, go for a swim, or take a covered boat tour to learn the history and discover the beauty of this charming little town.
Tour Chimney Rock Village
In the center of Chimney Rock is a variety of quaint retail shops, restaurants and galleries. After going for a hike up the mountain, I always stop at the Old Rock Café for a delicious burger and beer. If you’re in the mood for something more low-key than a hike, spend the afternoon at the Burntshirt Vineyards Tasting Room. Enjoy lunch or have a glass of wine while enjoying a stunning view of Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Falls.
Take a Scenic Drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway
The area around Chimney Rock is home to several scenic drives. The Blue Ridge Parkway, a 469-mile road that connects Virginia and North Carolina, is a popular route. Visitors can also take a drive along Highway 64, which offers stunning views of the mountains and valleys.
Whether you are interested in hiking, boating, or exploring small towns, Chimney Rock is the perfect day trip from Black Mountain, NC.
