A New Rhythm in Town: Why You Need to Visit Side B

If you’ve been looking for a reason to stay out a little later in Black Mountain, we just found it. We recently swung by Side B, the brand-new vinyl lounge tucked away in the basement of the historic Monte Vista Hotel, and let’s just say the “vibe” is officially set.

From the moment you step off the downtown path and into this space, you realize it’s unlike anything else in the area. It is oh-so-chic, blending an intimate, elevated atmosphere with a welcoming “hidden gem” feel that makes you want to settle in and never leave.

The Experience: High-Fidelity & High Hospitality

Inspired by Japanese kissa listening lounges, Side B is built around the warmth of vinyl records and thoughtful connection. Whether you are a local or just visiting for the weekend, the energy here is intentional and cool. It’s the kind of place where the music isn’t just background noise—it’s the guest of honor.

What We Loved

  • The Cocktails: Simply amazing. The craft cocktail program is sophisticated, but the menu doesn’t stop there.
  • Global Selections: They boast a deep selection of non-alcoholic options, THC beverages, and a beer list that literally spans six continents.
  • The Vibe: It’s intimate, stylish, and feels like a late-night hideaway. It’s the perfect spot to wind down after dinner or meet up with friends for a curated listening experience.

Local Roots, World-Class Style

It’s even better when you know the story behind the bar. Side B is an LGBTQ+ and Veteran-owned business founded by a powerhouse trio: Creative Director Ruen Ellis, Master Brewer (and Black Mountain native) Christopher Melton, and operations expert Christopher Campos. Their combined experience from New York, Miami, and our own local brewing scene shines through in every detail.

Check Out the Weekly Lineup

If you’re looking for the best time to visit, keep an eye on their weekly programming like Mountain Camp, a DJ residency featuring Jody.with.a.Y and Trevor from LoungeSport Collective – Our website calendar and weekly newsletter will give you all the deets.

If you haven’t been yet, put Side B at the top of your list. It’s sophisticated, soulful, and exactly what the Black Mountain late-night scene needed.
